Red-tailed hawk luncheon in Forest Hills, Queens
Perhaps a bit gory for the faint of heart, but still a great video taken by Mitch, clearly my budding wildlife documentarian hubby, of a red-tailed hawk that swooped in for a pigeon dinner. An open space species according to All About Birds, red-tails are rather common throughout New York City. You might not expect to see such majestic raptors in urban areas, but they're around -- just look up! Or, in this case, just look on the ground -- this video was shot with an iPhone in McDonald Park, our little open space in Forest Hills, Queens.
